Personal exerience: I tried a magnesium sulfate IV once during a cluster episode with great hopes (especially since I have all kinds of other magesium deficiency symptoms - leg cramps, Mitral valve prolapse, etc.) but I'm afraid it didn't do anything for me. Within a half hour I was having to abort a whopper with an Imitrex injection. I can't be 100% sure that the IV was administered correctly by the doctor's staff. I do know that different types of magnesium work for different people on other symptoms; mag citrate cures my leg cramps, but mag oxide makes them worse, and gives me an eye twitch!
