CH is a complex process. We don't actually know what causes them. We don't even know what they are. We have theories. If Jack meant to say that REM can induce a CH-attack, I'll let that stand. Personally, I feel that Jack's statement set up a cause-effect relationship which was incorrect. I don't see how REM can induce a CH-attack.
As far as the opportunistic idea goes, I believe that we can not separate the brain from the CH-process. The brain is complex. The combined complexity of CH and the brain, and the highly predictable nature of the CH-attack pattern, indicate to me some higher-order brain functions are involved. At this point, the discussion starts to border on the metaphysical and I'm tired. My head hurts from being battered the past couple of days and nights. I'm not really up to a religious discussion. Perhaps later.
