I have had a dentist drill on me with no pain killer. I was in the miliary and had no choice. It hurt like heck (actually another word discribes it better) for lack of a better term, a really sharp pain that caused me to jump up from the chair, my forehead hitting the dentist square in the nose and breaking his nose. So I know what it feels like.
But the clusters are a different type of pain. I can say it is worse but the pain type is so different. One is sharp and gives me chills just thinking about it = the dentist and the other scares me = the cluster.
My clusters are sometimes very severe and have caused me to pass out from the pain. According to several doctors that I have seen they say that there is a pain level that once a person reaches it, you pass out. That has happened to me many times but even so I still would not want to have dental work done with out pain killer.
I feel I have a pretty high tolerance for pain, and I too feel that the Kip scale or when a doctor asks, "grade your headaches on a scale from one to ten, ten being the worse pain you have ever felt". I don't feel that a number adaquately describes it due to all the subjective factors involved.
I don't know how to describe the pain to someone who has never felt it. They either don't belive it or think you are exaggerating or whineing. So I just refer them to this board and they can make up thier own mind.
Thanks for reading this, sorry it is so long but I guess it is good thearpy for the pain since it makes me feel better.
