Is your doctor also prescribing Verapamil? When my doctor prescribed a Prednisone taper this year, he combined it with Verapamil and that was what did the trick. I’d had the Prednisone-taper treatment before and it had never worked. It was the combination with Verapamil that did the trick, bringing me relief after 43 years of clusters.
My own, personal experience with opiates is that, if you take a big-enough hit, you can get wrecked to the extent that it’s a little easier to tough out the pain of a cluster. But opiates aren’t going to stop the pain to the extent that you’re going to be able to sleep through a cluster. Besides episodic clusters, I also have chronic (ordinary) headaches. Hydrocodone works really well against these. It not only controls or stops the pain, but it also makes me feel pretty good, moodwise. I really hope that Hydrocodone will help you with your clusters without giving you the Codein side-effects. As you say, you won’t know until you try it. Besides that, though Hydrocodone doesn’t help me against clusters, it may nevertheless help you, because we each suffer from clusters in our own way.
Good luck and a Happy New Year!
