Well, things hadn't been going well. On Monday, I got hit about 4 in the afternoon. I went through the whole litany of drugs to try and break it, giving each one time to try and work. Maxalt, Midrin, Vicodin, Esgic, Oxycontin (Percocet in time release), and finally Stadol. Nothing was working, it's 11 at night, and I'm hitting a 9. Time for a trip to the ER. After and hour and a half sitting in the waiting room, they said it would be another hour to hour and a half before I got back to be seen. Forget this, the cure is worse than the disease. I went home and got a couple hours of useless sleep. Woke up with the beast still at a 9, andhad my wife take me to the urgent care clinic (which was now open). A couple hundred mg of Demorol later, life was feeling pretty good. Come home and get a couple hours of real sleep.
Later that afternoon I went to the neurologist. This is one person who actually gives me hope that we may break these things. Between her positive outlook on these and the fact that she says we've barely scratched the surface of the drugs we can try to break it, I get a feeling of hope. If there is anyone else in the area who is looking for an excellent neuro, let me know--I'll be more than happy to pass her name along. In the meantime, here's to a new day, hopefully free from pain.
