Break it down to it's most basic parts:
Red Herring -- "Red" refers to a communist regime. Now, at first I thought that he was refering to the former Soviet Union, but "Herring" was the key to seeing how wrong I was. Herring, being a fish that's often smoked has a reference to water travel. Now, that could be any of the communist or former-communist countries. But smoked fish? Smoked? Cigars? Castro? Cuba!!! Yes Cuba it is. Now, take the Luke Skywalker and Dark Side reference. Luke Skywalker was merely a boy who was not raised by his father and who also ended up in a major fight between two governments. In this movie, the dark side was also the Evil Empire. Reagan told us the USSR (and Cuba by proxy) was an evil empire. So, my conclusion on waterpoodle's email is that he is really telling you that he's the young boy from Cuba who's father didn't have custody of him and is in the tug-of-war fight with the two governments of America and Cuba. My God. This boy hasn't suffered enough this past month, but he has to have clusters too?
