Unless Imitrex has recently changed its warnings, the first shot should be administered in the doctor's office. The procedure should be explained and the medics can observe your reactions to the medicine. Unless you have had a recent stress test of the heart, it's smart to be in a doc's office when you take a drug that constricts the blood vessels. I gave myself lots of shots until the stress test discovered my problems. Now I cannot take the shots. Don't be discouraged by my words of caution. Imitrex for me was a bona fide miracle, stopping the pain--even a 10--completely in 3 minutes and 40 seconds. Believe me, I timed it.
