Seems like we lead parallel lives. My husband is a CH sufferer and has been for 20+ years now. I've been with him for 14 of those years. We too, come from the trucking industry (owned our own "hot-shot" oilpatch company), and many late nights he would have to pull over by the side of the road to "do battle". Fortunately, we live in Canada and Mike (my husband) finds relief from applying ice or anything cold to his neck and face. I always sent him on the road with plastic bags in the winter. He could stop and scoop up some snow by the side of the road and use it as an instant ice bag.
He, too, has tried a myriad of drugs to no avail. He found success using the water treatment, ice, oxygen (he smokes a lot too), gravol (or dramamine in the states) and has learned the Beast gets bored faster - i.e. the attacks don't last as long, if he can stay calm during the attack.
If you or your wife need anything, please feel free to email me - just press my name in blue at the top of this message. I completely understand the helpless your wife is feeling and the frustration she goes through trying to bring you relief.
Hang in there, you're not alone anymore.
