My own understanding, from my doctor, was that if you are absolutely, positively certain that you're out of your cycle, then you taper-down the verapamil, and finally discontinue it.
If you're still not certain, and still getting shadows, twinges, and the occasional 1 or 2 or 3, then keep yourself on a low maintainance dose (2X120 for example).
I, myself, have been on it for a whole year now because the headaches have never completely gone away, not even for a day.
You might ask Doc Greg, who has, I think, spoken to this very question before in terms of his own useage.
