Do get him to a neurologist, but be prepared for a discussion regarding a host of possible meds. Preventative meds may include: lithium, verapamil, depakote, inderol, sansert, and others. The only two accute treatments I have heard of are breathing pure oxygen at 2 L perminutes for 8 minutes and imitrex. Imitrex, quite expensive, is available in pill, nasal inhaler, and injection kit. The pills take about 20 to 30 minutes to work. The others are almost immediate. B prepared for trial and error. The meds seem to work differently on different people.
