FORT COLLINS, Colo., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- OnLine To Health Inc.
announced today that it has launched the Headache Center for Women, the first
Web-based learning community devoted to the unique problem of women's
headache. Glaxo Wellcome Inc., one of the world's leading research-based
pharmaceutical companies, provided an unrestricted educational grant in
support of the Headache Center.
The Headache Center for Women can be accessed via the Women's Health
Interactive Website -- http://www.womens-health.com -- or through OnLine To
Health Inc.'s new Internet health portal -- http://www.onlinetohealth.com.
The primary focus of the Headache Center for Women is migraine, a
debilitating type of headache affecting approximately 18% of women. About
three times as many women as men suffer from migraine.
The Headache Center enables women to assess their current headache
knowledge and needs, learn about migraine and non-migraine types of headache,
and then formulate a Personal Action Plan. In addition, several learning
modules cover the causes of women's headaches, treatment, discussing headaches
with your health care provider, and self-help measures. A personalized
headache diary is available to help women track their headaches, treatments
and triggering factors.
Lisa K. Mannix, MD, is the medical adviser for the new learning
environment for women. Dr. Mannix is certified by the American Board of
Psychiatry and Neurology, and practices at the Headache Wellness Center in
Greensboro, North Carolina. One of her special interests is headache in women
and children.
"The Headache Center for Women empowers women to take charge of their
headaches," said Dr. Mannix. "Women are often unsure whether they suffer from
migraine or another type of headache, and frequently believe they must 'put up
with' headache pain or inadequate pain relief. This new web-based Center
explains the various types of headache and makes it clear that effective
treatment is available."
The Headache Center for Women combines its efforts with those of the
National Headache Foundation, a non-profit organization to provide support and
resources to headache sufferers, their families, and health care providers.
