I can't help with the dosage but verap is also one of the drugs of choice for high blood pressure and that is usually for life. Granted, the dosage is usually lower for HBP but I assume the side effects are minimal. You'll have to answer the alcohol question yourself; for most of us it is a major trigger in even small amounts but there are some that can get away with it. I do agree that stomping around with tears streaming from one eye and leaving a snot trail while screaming and banging your head would probably be less socially acceptable than sipping club soda. :-) Good luck. BTW, at my next annual checkup I'm going to try to get my doc to switch me to verap for HBP. It looks like a double edged sword, control the blood pressure and the beast at the same time.
