Hi, Jackie. I have not experienced the "shadows", so I don't know if I can be of any help to make you feel better. I, however, am in an episode in my "off" year. For 14 years, the pattern never messed up, and I was supposed to be totally free now but caught by surprise. I know for sure that I had a VERY stressful summer which I assume caused this episode. Up to this point, my past episodes were always regular no matter what went on in my life. Your brother's sudden death and your grief over it could have messed up the pattern, especially if your grieving process did not complete but built up in 3 years. I don't think it would hurt to go through your grief and emotions over his death if you aren't healed yet. Stress brings on CH, and a sudden release of stress brings on CH.....this disorder is "mysterious", to say the least. Worrying about going chronic is a stress, not having a good Dr. is a stress, and it's so easy for out-siders to say, "Relax and take it easy". Our emotional stability plays a major role in some of us CH sufferers, so I encourage you to take a positive attitude in fighting this disorder. You're not alone in this.
My neurologist is just empathic and wonderful (sweet gramma type), but she's at least 2 hours away from you. Maybe she can recommend someone in your area. Feel free to email me; I'll send you her phone number.
