Hi, Kris. Have you considered pills or injections? In my case, 20 mg nasal spray or 50 mg pill would abort the pain, but of course not as quickly as injections. While the frequency and intensity are reduced by preventive medication (Verapamil for me), 1/3 a shot does the job for me but the pill still has to be 50 mg, cut in 1/4's for quick absorption. Imitrex is a very strong vasoconstrictor, so it can't be good for the heart if we take a high dose for a long time! You may want to consult your Dr. and find the "lowest" dosage that works for you. We're desperate to get rid of the pain, but we don't want to take any more meds than necessary. Unfortunately, it's not easy to control the dosage of nasal spray. Your doctor can write a Rx for disposable cyringe/needle to divide the injection (thanks to Steve).
I also highly recommend oxygen. No side effects when we use it for 10-20 min. It's just worth a try. Hope the preventive medicine will work well for you.
