Bob Johnson let me first say that I respect and admire your thoughtful and educated posts. I agree that there are many medicines that come from the Migraine community that help CH. There are also many medicines that don't come from the Migraine community that help CH, such as Oxygen, Lithium, Topamax, Nuerontin, Depakote and other anti-depressants and anti-seizure medications as well. Indeed keeping an "eye" on SOME Migraine developments will help CH patients. With that said, SOME Migraine medications can cause great harm to a CH patient and the other way around.
For example I am very thankful to Glaxo Wellcome who researched Migraines and developed Imitrex for the use to abort Migraines. SOME of us Clusterheads have found the use of Imitrex to be quite helpful in aborting Cluster attacks. However, if a Migraine patient that suffers from Hemiplegic or Basilar Migraine was to take some Imitrex it MIGHT just kill them. Those two types of Migraines are the CONSTRICTION of blood vessels in the head. The last thing THAT patient would need is Imitrex or any TRIPTAN for that matter. That is why I believe it is important to be EDUCATED and SELECTIVE and perhaps even EXCLUSIVE as to the types of headaches that one discusses here at CH.com. I would not want anyone to be hurt by some idiot just posting a bunch of links that he knows nothing about. I'm of course NOT talking about you. I'm talking about the gentleman that admits to not knowing what it is he is posting about.
