It does end, but it starts up again. When it ends hold onto those times and relish them. When it's pain time again remember that you will get to the good days again. It's true when her period starts her body is less able to handle the pain, to fight off whatever else is attacking her like viruses etc. I am in the same boat right now. My husband dreads this time. I am more susceptible to clusters at this time, and I have ongoing migraines due to drastic hormonal changes. She may be living in fear as you are of the next round. Try not to think about when it will strike again when the pain free days are there. Just moment to moment and it will pass.
I know that it is hard to watch someone you love in pain. Harder when you can do nothing to help. I think there should be a support system for those that have to watch and be there through the hell of it too. For me, I am always worried that one day my husband will break and say screw this, I can't do it anymore and then I will be left to deal with it alone, and know that I destroyed our future good times together. There is fear and pain on both sides, emotionally and physically. I am sorry you are both going though this.
