Sure wish someone knew the cause. But there are definitely triggers. Alcohol leads the list and others (for me) are stong odors (perfume, paint, solvent, etc), MSG (almost impossible to avoid), foods with preservatives (hot dogs, sausage, etc) and cigar and pipe smoke. I don't do any of the meds but have had good luck using oxygen to abort the beast. Good luck.
