Recently had a problem myself with detaching retina. Mine turned out to be an abrasion and not yet a tear. The symptoms are:
Bright, flashing lights seen at the edge of the field of vision, accompanied with "floaters", (comprised of blood or pigment into the vitreous gel.) A curtain might be an indication of tearing, and all of the above are considered A MEDICAL EMERGENCY!
