My husband just got over his longest/most severe cycle of 4 weeks. We saw a neurologist for the first time and I strongly suggest that your husband do the same. I recommend a Neurologist who specializes in headaches - we went to a headache clinic. They understand, they sympathise and they have all the latest in medication. As far as having to watch helplessly, I have found that there's nothing I can do. He doesn't want me around when he's in pain. I walked into the bedroom once to give him a pill and he was holding a pillow with both hands and hitting his head with it. I just stood there dumbfounded as I had never seen him 'banging' his head against anything. When he realized I was in the room he was angry. They need to be alone during the pain. I'll go into the other room with the children and read them a book, while I pray silently that the pain subsides quickly. I know the children have a difficult time understanding - they just don't get it. "Why does daddy have a headache again?" has been a common question around here in the last few weeks. In closing, I would suggest: Get into a Neurologist ASAP, and just hang in there during the attack. Not much, I know, but just keep in mind that they WILL end eventually and hopefully for a LONG time. Good luck.
