I have found that Lithium will work as soon as the level reaches a certain point in the bloodstream. It takes from 2 days to six days to reach a theapeutic level. The level seems to vary with each cycle. Sometimes, I can get away with 600mg/day, sometimes 900mg/day, sometimes 1200mg/day. Some cycles it doesn't seem to work at all. The only side effects for me seem to be trembling hands and that awful metallic taste. Need to be very careful not to reach a toxic level. My doctor has always insisted on periodic blood tests to check the level.
