Hi Teresa,
You're right, he isn't doing anything wrong and neither are you. My husband, when in cycle, obeys all the trigger rules but it doesn't matter. The Beast still attacks him. The successes we've found have been:
1. The Water Treatment
2. Inhaling Oxygen
3. Ice Bags
4. Dramamine/Gravol before bed (just to get him through the night)
5. Him staying as calm as possible (sounds hokey but it has made the world of difference for Mike in being able to deal with the pain).
It is the hardest thing to do, to stand by feeling totally helpless when your loved one faces this torture alone. All you can do is be there for him....leave him alone if he asks you to and don't be offended. Stay within earshot but, for Mike anyways, he needs to be alone to be able to focus on the pain. Let your husband lead the way and ask him what he needs you to do - but don't ask him while he is being attacked. Wait until he is pain free.
Clusters are NOT fair, and your life is on hold while the Beast is present. Hopefully, through our efforts with O.U.C.H. and our interaction here on the Board, we will see a day where each of us can find our individual control and preventative. Stay with us, Teresa, you've found a home.
Feel free to email me anytime if you need a shoulder, I totally understand your frustration.
Pain free days ahead!
