I think it's great that you encourage people NOT
to give up on O2. It has no side affects like
the other drugs. Yesterday, I had a bad one
and used my Oxygen tank unfortunately for 2 hours
at 8 liters per minute. If I got off it after
10 minutes - the pain returned, so I get back
on it. I had my attack - but I didn't feel the
pain. Actually, my eye still swelled up and my
nose ran - but I chose to give my body a break
from Imitrex or DHE spray. And I'm glad that
I gave my body a break from that. Okay, I did have
my attack still - but because I stayed on O2 for
two hours and suffered through just having to breath
that nose drying stuff up .... I gave my rest of
my body the night off from the powerful meds. And
my head felt NO PAIN while having the full fledge
attack. Strange that I still had the "eye and
nose" thing. And when I turned the air off -
after 10 minutes it started heavy pain again. But
O2 is a good way for women who might be pregnant
to safely deal with this pain. ALso, those who
are HIV+ can't take all those meds because they
may send them into the stages of AIDS (now you
know those drugs are strong and hard on your body)
and O2 will at least give those people a chance
not to be in such pain. I would like to maybe
have a baby one day. And O2 gives me a safe way
to deal with the pain and NOT have to take the
drugs I wouldn't be allowed to take if I chose
to get pregnant. On some days, the cluster attacks
also go away after 10 minutes of O2, but I find
staying on it an additional 15 minutes a good
protective measure from rebound -which I have
experienced too.
Good luck everyone. Be kind to yourself now.
