I agree with Dave's sequence of treatment. The first drug perscribed for me 30 years ago when I had my first cluster was Fiorinal/codiene. Didn't do anything. About 4 years ago I again tried narcs, Darvocette. Again, didn't help. What it did was cover the first signs of pain but the headache eventually broke through. When it did, it was too late for my normal abortive, cafergot. That was the last time I tried the narcs.
