Cardizem is in the same class as verapamil, but has not been demonstrated to be as effective in any study that I am aware of...but that doesn't mean it won't work. If Verapamil has worked for you in the past, I would be inclined to go back to what you know works...but if it only worked a little bit...trying cardizem is reasonable. Sometimes one calcium channel blocker works better for one person, not so great for the other. It is certainly as safe as verapamil.
Taking medication during a remission period does not seem to prolong the remission. I usually recommend people get off cluster drugs when they hit remission. Why take drugs if they don't seem to help?
