re: biofeedback, cognitive restructuring, etc
perhaps in a way, we think alike - so many such things become extremely trendy to talk about, because they ARE so "soft-sided", and I instinctively avoid anything that smacks of being trendy, because it usually turns out to be very lacking in substance (where trendy = "talked about a lot buy many people", people who REALLY think about stuff don't tend to talk about it so much, ergo if it is "trendy", it probably hasn't been thought about much)
BUT -
I guarantee you that what I always called "mental control" helps to lessen the EFFECT of attacks AND of the overall cluster
nothing mumbo-jumbo - quite the opposite - think of it as using a thorough understanding of what is happening to you, to allow you to use your will power to force yourself to think in ways and about things, during an attack, such that the pain itself is obviated
actually VERY mechanical, VERY mind&will oriented
NOTHING hocus-pocus about it
as far as "biofeedback" goes -
obviously I wasn't using the term in the preferred manner, and from what I observe, it DOES smack a lot of trendiness to my eye & ear
re: prayer, etc -
each to his own
much to everyone's surprise, probably, I rely heavily on what a lot would call prayer - and I also have a very well-developed NONdenominational spiritual outlook - -
part of it leads me to find public prayer, preaching, evangelizing and other and overly dramatic religious effusions extremely distasteful, and frankly offensive -
even though I realize they aren't USUALLY meant that way
just a hint to the evangelists why some of us might not be completely receptive to the holier-than-thou contests that sometimes flare up on CHMB
just a suggestion that when people so fervently flaunt their "freedom of religion" in public, they may well be acting in a way that interferes with mine; and also that when relying on "freedom of speech" - that ONLY means the Government can't silence you, under most circumstances - it is NOT a license to say any damned thing you want AND then object in outrage if anybody replies in a less than complimentary manner
I was always taught: "once you open your mouth in public, you're in play"..........
