Tim:
From my experience and reading this board, it's
very common for medications to work for one
episode and then not for another. In my case,
Prednisone and oxygen are not quite as effective
this time as previously, but still do work.
I've never heard of anyone using Pamelor for
clusters. I use Prednisone for prevention of the
headaches, and for the few milder ones that sneak
through, I use oxygen (7 liters for 10 minutes) or
Imitrex nasal spray (though injections are apparently
more powerful).
My Prednisone dosage is 5 20 mg pills for 2 days,
4 pills for 2 days, etc., down to 1 pill for
2 days, then no pill, then one pill. Then I repeat
the taper.
If you browse this board, you'll definitely see
the same medications mentioned a lot: Prednisone
and Verapamil for prevention, oxygen, Imitrex, or Cafergot
to abort the pain. This is just what comes to my
mind. Are you seeing a neurologist who is familiar
with clusters?
There definitely is hope.
