I almost never use alcohol. It burns too. But, if you feel safer using alcohol, that is fine. Just make sure the area is not wet. Dry the alcohol off very good, then shoot.
Also, the needle is short. If you, or another, squeeze the injector to tight in your hand, the bottom part might not spring up all the way. This means that once the button is pushed, it can't get as deep as it should. So--much of the medicine will be too close to the skin vs. deeper in the tissue.
Not sure which of the above is what you are doing, but likely one or both of them.
