Jim, you asked for a comparison to child birth?
While the pain of childbirth is validated and believed throughout the medical community and society, the pain of clusters does not have that luxury. The pain of childbirth is met with the realization that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, the pain of cluster IS a long dark tunnel that offers little hope of any light. During childbirth you lie down and push, during clusters you run in circles beg for mercy. And if we must use that dreaded and condescending "Pain Scale", childbirth is a ten, while clusters are a 20 (with a three point margin of error for really bad doctors). This is just my own humble comparison, and we can all rest assured that it will never appear in any medical journals. :)
