Dear Cassandra,
In my experience, I try to hide away from everyone during cluster attacks and hide the fact that I suffer from them because most everyone thinks of them as "regular" headaches and thus, think of me as a real "wimp" for allowing "regular" headaches to tare me down so. Aside from the "shame" factor, I also feel I must hide simply for the fact of how I must look during a cluster attack; the running in circles, pacing, breathing heavy; groveling on the floor; it's not a pretty sight. I once had one of these in a courtroom when testifying as a witness and was humiliated unbearably. Two guards had to escort me out of a witness box in front of a room full of people while insisting that I be seen by the EMS. I do believe they thought I was either on drugs or was having some traumatic phsychological episode. That kind of humiliation can almost be as horrible as the pain. This is why "hiding" is desirable.
Your mom would not have to hide here. That is why this is such a great place.
