I am not a doctor either, but have taken Verapamil for 9 years. You need to be evaluated by a neuro. The Verapamil that we are mostly talking about is 240 SR, which stands for sustained release. That means it is absorbed slowly. The 80 mg tablets you are probably talking about are not the same. Taking 240 mg of these could have some dangerous side effects like very low blood pressure. At least talk to your pharmacist about the difference. Verapamil is of course just like all of our medication, designed for some other condition. It softens the linings of the heart and arteries. It lowers blood pressure. It has been very effective for me over the years. I enjoy a few cold ones every week or so, and usually don't have a problem. But like everyone else, when in a cycle one sip will trigger a cluster. Good luck with the medication.
