I’ve had remissions that lasted nearly that long. It went like this: first attack: 1956; second attack: 1966; third attack: 1976; fourth attack and first correct diagnosis: 1986; fifth attack: 1992; sixth attack and first correct treatment: 1999. I felt the first attack only in my temple. Current attacks are in my eye, my cheek, my sinus, and my teeth, which travel up and down the right side of my face in that order. The most agonizing is the eye attack. The first attack, in 1956, lasted about a half-hour. Current attacks last from 11:30 p.m. to 6:45 a.m., with no intermission or breaks. However, Verapamil weakens the attacks to the point that I can pretty much sleep through them. Prior to Verapamil, I used to get so stoned on Darvocet that sometimes I would think that I could actually see The Demon shoving his harpoon into my eye and yanking it back out, just to hear me scream.
