I am pretty upset. I just found out that my insurance won't pay for emergency room visits. I am pissed. BC/BS says it wasn't an emergency.
I am new to cluster headaches. I will tell you my story and you might see why I am pissed. I went to the family DR for eye pain. They refered me to the opthamologist. He prescribed me prednisone because he thought that I had scleritis. I was taking that and 3 days later I went to the ER with a god awful headache. Th Dr said I had migraines and to see the opthmolagist. He gave me three loricets. On the way home from work the next day, I got the headache again. iwent to the opth's office without even an appt. He was great he called the neurologist on call. And I went right down to the Neuro's office. I sat there for 45 minutes and ;a nurse pops out with 3 Imitrex. I had never even been to the office before they had no history on me. They told me to come back for an appt. the following week. I wouldn't take the Imitrex because a friend of a friend dropped dead after taking. Nothing was helping my head. So I went to a different er. I got a shot of composine and was sent home. I turned out to be allergic to composine. I ended up taking about 20 advil that day. My headaches weren't to bad. I woke up the next morning and freaked. I could barely see out of my right eye. It was red and had alot of edema. I went back to the Er driving with the bad eye closed(scary) rocking back and forth, pacing the whole works. The DR gave me inj. imitrex. My headache didn't go away and my eyesight was getting worse. He called in a Neuro. The man took one look at me and said cluster with horner's. He apologized to me for the other Neuro Guy. He insisted on seeing me in 2 days. His cocktail worked. I am pissed because BC/BS doesn'tthink that almost blind in one eye and a headache from hell is not an emergency. I know that I got diagnosed early compared to others. So I guess in that aspect that I am lucky. Thanks for listening or reading!!
