I have been on High Protein, Low Carbs for several months now, I guess since May. I had gained 35 lbs from no where. I had never had a weight problem like that before. I didn't weigh but 85 lbs when I graduated from High School. First time I weighed 100 lbs, I was 23 and 6 months pregnant at the time. I only weighed 127 on the very day my son was born, so for me to gain all this weight for no reason, something had to be very wrong. It was, my thyroid wasn't working. So, in November of 98 as a results of yearly physical, lab tests proved I needed thyroid medicine. I started taking it then, I had been in remission from CH for at least 3 years. However, December 28 about a little over a month of the tyroid meds to get into my system, bang severe CH. I have had 4 series since then. The last one I just got over that lasted 12 days. For the old ones on the website, they know how I suffered. Last week after lab tests came back, my thyroid count was out of sight, per my PCP. She cut my thyroid from 200 mcg, to .15 mg of synthyroid. I don't know it this triggered my last series or the rest, I just don't know yet. I do know it took 12 days out of my life battling everyday trying to get the Demon to let go of my arm. I got so tired of him pulling and dragging me out on that dance floor every day or night.

Now I have been free of that series since Wednesday morning, yea!!!!Praise God...AND His Mercy.

You mentioned hard cheese and aged meat, I don't eat, either. The only cheese I eat is sliced sandwich cheese and it has to be melted. As far as aged meat, meat doesn't stay in my house with a growing 6 ft. 25 year old long enough to get "aged". If it isn't nailed down, my son eats it.

All kidding aside, I don't know of any connection. I dropped 20 lbs with no effort. Just a new way of eating for me. I am a very good cook, no brag here, just fact, and I was cooking either homemade biscuits or cornbread with every meal, mashed potatoes evert day and all the trimmings, all those things. Now, I only eat White Wheat bread which is only 11 grams of carb. and no biscuits, or cornbread (and being a Southern Belle, that was very hard to do without), no beans, corn, potatoes. If I eat a baked pot. out sometimes, then I just don't eat a steak with it. No battered fried things. If you don't have a George Forman Grill, then get one, the jumbo size. We use it everyday of our lives.

I have very low blood all the time, and have given my own B12 injections for years. I can always tell when my blood is low, because when I bend over and get back up quickly, I almost pass out, get very dizzy, everything turns black on me. Have to hold on to something. I just go get the B12 out of the crisper. You know what my blood count was last week, 14. My hemoglobin was 14, that is the highest my blood count has been ever, so this high protein diet is good for me in that regards at least.

You guys that are on steriods, the weight is going to come ---just pick a place on your stomach or thighs where you want it, because it will be there before you know it. When they had me on those darn things, If A Bear Backed Up To Me, I Would Have Taken A Bite Out of Him. Very hungry... I Know. Steriods,-----no thank you.

I do not go by any doctor's plan. I limit my intake of carbs to 80-100 per day and try not to go over. Just read a lot of labels. Eat all the protein I can. Theory: Carbs are the first thing your body uses for energy. If you eat too many carbs, then your body stores the rest as fat. The protein is very hard to burn up. It takes our body more energy to burn up protein and therefore kills two birds with one stone. The protein stays with you longer and you don't get hungry as quickly. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Eat a good breakfast, bacon, sausage, egg, toast.... You eat a lot on this D I E T. I really hate to call it that, because it really isn't a diet, just a new way of eating for me. Apples and bananas are ones to stay away from. If you eat an apple, that apple is gone in 30 minutes and you are hungry again. All sea food is very high in protein. Just read labels. Eat several smaller meals a day instead of large meals. Your stomach will swrink also I have found. You definitly don't go around hungry. Easy to lose this way. My GYN agreed with me on it, said he lost 40 lbs on it himself.

Here I go again. I don't know how you guys just post these little sweet notes. I get happy fingers and the words just fly.

If you find a connection to high protein and CH, P L E A S E let me know. I had rather be fat than suffer from CH....... any day.
