Hi folks-
Every so often, I cruise over and check out the latest Survey data (as I suspect many of us do).
Just thought I'd share a few observations---
We're up to 1149 respondants!!!! WOW! We had about 500 when I responded, right after finding this new home of mine.
So, twice the database and what do I see there?
Well, the M/F ratio has remained very consistent at 3:1. Hmmm. skeptical though I am about the statistical validity of an 'uncontrolled' survey that anyone surfing the web, not just CH's, can take, the consistency of results is too high to discount. To each his/her own, but for me, I'm going to say 3:1 is the number, should I ever do more interviews, etc. The old "6:1" is DEAD.
Trauma preceding remains at 11-19%. 11% say yes, 8% 'can't remember'. Doesn't seem like trauma is a strong factor. Nor is family history. As for hazel eyes and the rest of those 'old doctor's tales', forget 'em. No facts to support.
Smokers have increased a bit, I believe. Only 42% say they don't smoke. I'm assuming some of those might be ex-smokers. Numerous posts have stated that they used to smoke, quit in hopes it would help, and no dice. We DO (as a group) have more smokers than the general (US) population.
I'm still intending to try to track down some data on the % of adult population that drinks, and to what extent. I THINK we have a rather high % on Non and Special Occasion Only drinkers, but that's just my completely unsubstantiated opinion.
We HAVE amassed the largest body of survey data in history (based upon my readings of the research done and the population sizes in those studies).
As I said y'day in reply to a wonderful post (from Tim? sorry, can't remember) about research at the convention, I'm really eager to develop a very thorough survey which we can collect at the Convention. I know a statistician, and will be seeing her tomorrow. Not sure if she's up on survey techniques, etc, but I'll ask. I'd also like to get some input on WHAT we need to ask--and a doctor's perspective would be great on that subject.
Ok, enough of my blathering. Just wanted to remind everyone that the survey continues to grow and it's a good idea to check out the results every once in a while.
