Demon or beast really works for me. They imply what I think is the essence of clusters
1 - that they have a life of their own - that they do not respond to biofeedback and are independent of my mental health at any particular time
2 - that they are an attack ( much more than a headache )
3- that they can not be willed away
4- that they are excruciatingly painful
PS - those around me tell me I am a very self-disciplined and strong willed person - I suffered for about 18 years without drugs of any kind ( including oxygen ). I hate to take medication of any kind. Once I learned that these things had a name and could be treated ( verapamil works great for me ) , wild horses could not keep me away from my verapamil fix.
