Jayne,
I have had two migraines in my life. They are also awful, but my personal experience is that they're about a "7.9" on the Kip Scale. I never felt compelled to scream or cry out, and I was able to get some comfort from lying still in a cool dark room. Once the pain of a CH crosses that line, though, we lose our ability to be still, to be quiet, to relax. When it peaks, we can become self-destructive with head banging and other craziness.
I never belittle a migraine sufferer, though. Even though his pain might be a little less perfect, he has no idea when it will end. I've known people to go for a week with no letup from a migraine, and I've personally done a two-day marathon. When I have a CH, even if it's a "10", I know it'll be done in the next hour or two at most.
Anyhow, pain is personal. I don't think there could possibly be a higher, more exquisite level than a maximum CH, and the medical literature often informs physicians that it's the highest pain level they'll see. But just like President Clinton can't really feel my pain, I can't feel yours either....
Pain Free Days to ya!!
