I Know what you mean, Hal. Each time I have gone to the ER in the past years, It was A two hour waite and by then, My CH has Passed.
I told th ER Doc who my Neurologist is and that I have been diagnosed with Cluster Headache Syndrome and Assured the ER doc that I was legit. I told them what meds I used when out of remission; 02 and verapamil and tried to explain the need for 02 and safe BP meds, He just didn't get it. What does the ER Doc do? gives me a shot of benedryl and a script for antibiotics. Well that all happened a while back and Cluster Headaches HAVE become more recognized by younger Neurologist here in Athens and old school thinking is being rethought(?) There are many young Doctors here and even young GPs are aware of cluster headaches some treat it but they will not hesitate to give a CHer a referral to a neurologist; hopefully, one that knows to treat THEM. In the past, Doctors an some neuros in Athens new of cluster headaches but did NOT know how to treat them. Most used the typical migrain treatment none of which worked for me. But Slowly, CH has gained some awareness. I was refered to another neuro to get a second opinion. But when I went to the ER, I realized the staff could not see I was In severe agony. I am sure they would see things differently if I came in with half my arm amputated. Our pain is invisible. They just can SEE it!!! beyond or visible signs-- " A Swollen eye and a runny nostril" and we naturally get over looked
Pain free days for all DC
