If I hear about something new, I usually call my pharamist first and find out about it and then one or the other of us calls my doc and I go pick up the med at the pharmacy.

My doc is great and I report in at least monthly or I get a call from him checking to see if I'm ok. I see him when I need to, but most of the time when I'm bad, I don't feel like going in. My neuro is pretty much the same way (I just haven't known him as long as I have my primary doc, but we're getting there).

I'm so happy for you that you found someone who knows something. But don't forget to keep up on your homework. He might miss something that you can pass on to him.

I would also suggest educating your pharamist (I live in a small town and this might not be feasible in a large town) so that he watches out for you also. My pharmacist (I refer to him as my drug dealer - he loves that!) calls me if he hears about something new on the market.

My opinion (and everyone has at least one or two) is that we all need a support group among the medical community to help deal with this demon. It can't be done overnight, (took me a few years) but once THEY know how it is, you won't get the flak when you call and tell them you need something NOW! My doc calls me back within 5 minutes when I tell the front desk I've got a HA and my pharmacist brings meds to the house if I can't get to the drug store to get them.

I live in a small town and EVERYONE in town knows about my headaches (I'm not one to suffer quitely), so I do have the support. I'm sure this might not work in a large city, but if any of you live in a small town - try it. It does help.

Hugs BD
