Sorry, I don't know what kind of reputation the Mayo Clinic has in this area. I think they might have their own web site. If they do, you could check it out. I'd be surprised if they put any "cutting edge" things on it, though - you'll probably just see general information.
On Verapamil, I've been told it can cause constipation. Flatulence isn't something I've heard mentioned.
If you're getting your CH at night, it wouldn't surprise me that you were losing some of your sharpness during the day. From what I've seen on this site, when the headaches come on during sleep, they appear to coincide with the onset of REM sleep. I remember reading some studies a few years back about deprivation of REM sleep, and seem to recall that the subjects in the studies showed signs of fatigue during waking hours, even though they actually had a sufficient "quantity" of sleep. When the headaches are waking me up, I have difficulty functioning during the day, too. (It's even worse than when my kids were infants. At least then, I could still get REM sleep, since they woke up at random times. CH appears especially pernicious, in that it works to deprive you of the type of sleep you need the most.) Hope your symptoms disappear when you start to get more sleep. I know that mine do.
