Well, if it ever becomes "fashionable" to be running around with an ice pick sticking out of your head (or the pain equivalent thereof), I think this country's in big trouble.
To answer your question about lying down, yes, I have to. My pain actually intensifies if I'm upright (probably the related sinus stuff), and since it (the pain) absorbs ALL of my attention, moving around is actually dangerous. I've run into walls and stuff trying to get to the bathroom for more meds.
As I'm getting older, my attacks always occur on the left side my my head, so I lie on my right side and try to push ice cubes into my left temple and eye. One of these days I'll probably succeed. But I also can't keep still while I'm lying down, especially as the pain reaches its peak. My husband says it looks like I'm wrestling with something invisible that has my head pinned down. As good an analogy for CH as any, I guess.
