I was on Propranolol In March/April 1995, and again
in January 1998. I was also prescribed amytriptylene
both times.
In 1995 I took the prop in the mornings and
the trip at night. Side effects of the trip were
a dry mouth, irregular heartbeat and yellow eyes
(the whites of the eyes that is!). I couldn't stand
the irregular heartbeat so I quit the med.
In January I read more about this combination and
yes it is prescribed for migraine but can also be
effective against CH if used correctly.
1) the trip takes 2 weeks to impact so you need to
start this med at the beginning of this cluster.
2) the prop should be long acting.
3) the dose of prop should be upped the really
bad days, but take the caps 6 hours apart!
4) to avoid irregular heartbeat, take both the prop
and the trip at the same time in the evening.
5) the prop also takes a while to become effective
so it's important to take the treatment early (doesn't
that sound familiar). Apparently the same applies to
methysurgicide.
6) continue the meds for a min of two weeks.
I'm on both meds again, so I'll try and replicate
whats I found in Jan.
