drummer,
This is difficult stuff, no doubt about it. My 10-year-old daughter has managed to sleep through all the times I was writhing on the kitchen floor or banging my head. She has become very sensitive to the look in my eyes or face or something and can tell when my head really hurts. She's a strong girl and has taken to putting me in a headlock and squeezing hard--the result is like a hug and a vice and it makes my head feel a little better. And it's silly and makes me laugh if the pain isn't too strong.
It's hard to hear a child say she wishes she had a regular dad. Do keep in mind the language development of a six-year-old. My guess is she meant that she wishes you didn't have headaches not that she had a different dad.
God's peace,
Jim
p.s. And now for something completely different: My funniest terrible headache happened on a crowded subway. I cried out and grabbed my head and started rocking furiously (no room to pace). Suddenly there was a lot of room around me and even some empty seats! Sitting down made me feel a little better...even triumphant in my pain fog.
