Todd answered the OUCH question. Episodic means you have breaks between the cluster bouts. You may have them for , say a month, and then get a break for a few weeks, months or years before another bout starts. Chronic means they never go away. They're there every day, every night, 2 to 10 a day and can go on for years. Atypical means the clusters have the "normal" symtoms but may a little different such as changing sides of the head.
