I was part of a group that participated in a blind test of a cluster headache drug in December 1997. While I did not know what I was taking, I thought it worked quite well. I am currently in my 3rd week of a new cluster attack, and asked the neurologist for the drug I tested, and he prescribed Zomig. I have taken the drug several times since it was prescribed last Wednesday and it seems to take much longer to eliminate the pain than Imitrex, and it does not keep the pain away for very long. I took one at 8pm this evening and had another headache by 9pm, followed by another at 10pm - hence the reason I am up writing at 11:30pm - I'm too afraid to try to go back to sleep.
The main problem with Zomig is you are unable to take another Zomig, or even an Imitrex, for 12 hours. This is especially annoying when the Zomig does nothing to aleviate the pain. Looks like I'll be up all night.
Imitrex seems to work much better. 1/2 an Imitrex lets me sleep after I get my initial cluster.
