My doctor was out of town and his associate preceribed 120 mg. of Calan plus cafergot. When my regular doctor got back, he cancelled the cafergot, changed the Calan to Verapamil (these are the same thing, but Verapamil is generic and is, therefore, cheaper. He also raised the dosage from 60 mg. twice a day to 240 mg. twice a day. This dosage virtually stopped The Deom in its tracks. My cluster attacks wrer reduced from the gaony that we all know only too well to minor annoyances that could be controlled by Excedrin and/or Darvocet.
The major side-effect is light-headedness or even fainting, in people who have low blood pressure, so driving or operating other machinery may not be a smart move. The other side-effect is constipation. Just eat plums or prunes or have a small glass of prune juice with your meals.
