Bobbie:
As one of the Jackies you mention, I thought I would
respond to your message (the other is Jackie M.).
Most of my messages were last August, because that's
when I had my typical episode. Since then, I've
been grappling with "going chronic," though this
seems to be a mild condition that is easily
controllable by drugs.
There's an excellent chance that if you do have
another cycle, you can find a drug to effectively
control it. If your cycle last about 1 month or
so, you could try Prednisone, starting at 60 mg
or so for 3 to 5 days, then 50, etc. Another
excellent choice is Verapamil; however it takes 2
to 3 weeks to become totally effective.
What I've found is that I get the best results if
I take charge of my own health and do my own
research. Get a drug plan in order, and get it
ok'd with your neuro, so that you'll know what
to do if the clusters come back. Remember, for
the headaches that "break through," oxygen and
imitrex are the abortives of choice.
Best of luck. I enjoyed your post.
