It's always the toughest times that let us know when love is strong, and when it is not. The fact that your boys are loving children, just shows that they have learned something from you and your husband. Congratulations on that.
I am generally very easy going and put myself out for others. But I notice that when I'm tired, and have been for a long time, I am at my worst. When that happens, and I'm am short with someone I love, I just say immediately afterwards (or maybe a little while later, if my pride gets in the way), "I'm sorry. I'm just tired and grouchy". Then we both feel better.
Your husband probably feels bad, (one) because he feels bad, and (two) because you are having to do all of the work for both of you folks. I would hate having my wife have to do everything . . . whatever the reason.
You're right. You will get through this . . . and be much closer as a result.
May the clearing be just ahead.
