As mentioned lidocaine and a cocaine have been used to deaden nerves that can be reached through the nose. There is a sinus up there called the sphenopalatine. It is right under the area of the brain that *may* be responsible for the headache's mechanism. I can't guess what drug he is thinking about but it is probably a local anesthetic. This treatment has been fairly successful in the studies I looked at.
