Add me to the list who have never used diet drinks or artificial sweeteners and still have CH. Sorry, I look forward to each new theory in the hopes we will one day find a real cause/effect. Unfortunately, I believe CH is much too complex and individualistic to be so neatly categorized.
As to the Imitrex no longer working, you might try Amerge. It's also by Glaxo-Wellcome, intended for those Imitrex doesn't help. My doc gave me 2 samples during my recent bout and they worked great. I decided to stick with the Imitrex and towards the end of this episode began feeling like it was no longer as effective.
