I started drinking diet coke for the first time in my life in Jan 98. In Feb 98 I started having chronic daily cluster headaches and vertigo that lasted until Oct.98. I became aware in Aug.98 about aspartane causing major problems such as headaches, etc. I quit drinking the 2-5 cans of diet coke a day, the 3 diet yogarts a day, and eating other diet foods that contain aspertaine and in about 6 weeks my headaches stopped. I figure it took that long to clean my system of it. I was headache free for two months. I drank a diet coke and within 12 hrs. I had a major headache 10+. So I know that I am sensitive to aspartane and that it will trigger headaches in me. With my limited knowlege of CH I was hoping it would just be a matter of not consumming aspartane and I would be fine life would go on as normal. What a disapointment it was when in Feb. this year my cluster headaches started right up again this time with no aspartaine in my diet. I was devistated. It seems that I run a cycle of chronic daily headaches from Feb. to ? I am betting that this cycle will run until Oct. like last year. So did my headaches end last Oct. due to cycle ending or taking the aspartane out of my diet? I am not sure. All I know is when I do drink it I get headaches and other problems. I often wonder if the aspartane altered my brain levels of ----? I have read in lab rats it does alter brain chemistry for years. Maybe there is something to it. If you surf on net for aspartane you will be amazed at the trouble this product has caused on peoples health and wonder why it is still around. Good luck in your search. I would recomend highly anyone drinking diet drinks to stop asap!
